-
On November 14, 2024, at a meeting held in Columbia, UN Tourism announced its Best Tourism Villages for 2024. Over 260 applications were received from more than 60 member states. Amagi, Kagoshima Prefecture was chosen as a Best Tourism Village, becoming the first place in Kyushu to receive this recognition.
Amagi was selected as an outstanding community, working to create an area that preserves natural and cultural heritage through tourism.
Amagi is located in the north-west of Tokunoshima, an outlying island in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is part of Tokunoshima's World Natural Heritage Site.
Amagi is known for its beautiful natural scenery, rich biodiversity and traditional culture. Visitors can enjoy unique experiences that blend outdoor adventure with local traditions.
The village is surrounded by mountains, and its subtropical climate makes it an ideal location for both agriculture and tourism.
