Kagi-hiki (Hook Pulling) Festival
(かぎ引き祭り/鈎引き祭 (かぎひきまつり))
A dynamic traditional festival that has continued for more than 300 years.
This traditional festival, which has centuries of history, is held to pray for a bountiful harvest and good health. Opposing teams pull on the male tree shaped like a hook and the female tree with a forked trunk, which are entangled together.
It is said that the first district to win two of the three tries will have a good harvest that year. It is said that if you take home a hooked tree branch, you will live in good health for a whole year.
We also recommend the Takakuma Satoyama Hometown Experience offered by the Kanoya City Tourism Association in conjunction with the Kagi-hiki Festival. For details, please visit the official Kanoya City Tourism Association website.
