Chiran Neputa Matsuri
（知覧ねぷた祭）
The Kagoshima version of Aomori's Nebuta Matsuri
Neputa Matsuri began about 20 years ago as a result of exchanges between Chiran Town in Kagoshima Prefecture and Hirakawa City in Aomori Prefecture.
A fan-shaped Neputa with a powerful painting of a warrior, 5 meters tall and 4 meters wide, parades through Chiran Town on this night.
Accompanied by the music of flutes and Japanese drums, tourists and participants alike become one as they carry the gigantic, three-dimensional float in tune with the rousing cheers.
Enjoy the famous Aomori Nebuta Matsuri in southern Kagoshima!
* In conjunction with the Chiran Neputa Matsuri, there will be a special performance by Karakuri dolls powered by a water wheel at Toyotama-hime Shrine.
