Tanabata Odori Dance
(七夕踊)
A traditional event with over 300 years of history
It is said that people from this area must play the drums at least once in his or her life. This dance is so cherished that locals who now live elsewhere will come back to participate in this event.
This dance event has carried on for more than 300 years under strict rules, and is designated a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
Besides the drum and dance performance, there are processions of people in traditional costumes.
The event is dedicated to local gods and ancestors as a prayer for good harvest.
