Sarukawa Banyan Tree （猿川ガジュマル）

This Sarukawa Banyan tree is one of the many unique trees of universal natural value on Yakushima. Located in the middle of a thick, subtropical jungle, the stunning tree is more than 100 years old. Its roots and branches stretch over an area of about 100sqm. Though only about five minutes’ walk from a parking lot, the area around the Sarukawa Banyan tree is quiet, allowing visitors to drink in the tranquil environment, which is overflowing with life.

Address 鹿児島県熊毛郡屋久島町樋ノ口
Directions From Yakushima Airport, take the Tanegashima Yakushima Kotsu bus towards Kurio for about 50 minutes and get off at the Shochugawa Bus Stop. The tree is a 10-minute walk from there.
