Satsuma Students Museum
(薩摩藩英国留学生記念館)
Trace the history of the Satsuma students, who contributed to the modernization of Japan
This museum introduces the Satsuma students who traveled to Great Britain in 1865 to study advanced technologies, and later contributed to the modernization of Japan.
The appearance of the building is based on the concept of a "Satsuma-style Western building", juxtaposing the red brick walls characteristic of the early Meiji period with a Japanese tiled roof.
There is a museum shop and a café on-site, where you can enjoy British-style afternoon tea.
