Kushira Heiwa Park is located on the former site of the Kushira Naval Air Corps Base, where roughly 5,000 young apprentice pilots underwent training, many of whom took off for the skies in the last six months of World War II. What was once the base's runway is now a straight road lined with cherry trees beloved by the locals.
