Kinsakubaru Forest
(金作原)
This primeval subtropical broadleaf forest is a natural wonder, providing life for many rare plant and animal species indigenous to the region.
Among them is the cyathea lepifera or brush pot tree, a fern that has existed for more than 300 million years and is considered a living fossil. The forest is also home to the Okinawa tree lizard and the Lidth's jay or Amami jay, which is now found only on Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima. The beautiful species of jay is designated a protected species in Japan.
Visit on a sunny day to catch the sun’s rays shining through the green canopy or enjoy a stroll year-round for relaxation and forest bathing.
