A traditional industry of Amami Oshima, Oshima Tsumugi is crafted through a complex process that leverages Amami’s unique nature, with both materials and design. It is a process that requires a lot of physical work with the hands. At Oshima Tsumugi-mura, visitors can observe the intricate process, which begins with white silk thread, and make their own original handkerchief using the traditional practice of mud-dyeing. They can even feel the comfort of Oshima Tsumugi by trying it on.
